Red Cross Trains Girl Scouts with Passport to Preparedness

Passport to Preparedness Mid-Western Washington

The American Red Cross teamed up with the Girl Scouts of Western Washington once again last Sunday, November 4, for a Passport to Preparedness event in DuPont.

The program trained 120 girls at the DuPont Girl Scout Center. The girls learned basic first aid tactics in an interactive session. They learned how to save a choking victim, as well as how to properly wrap and secure bandages. The girls also filled out emergency contact cards, made home evacuation plans and learned other disaster preparedness tips from the Red Cross.

Volunteers from the American Red Cross Mt. Rainier Chapter, as well as King and Kitsap, were there to lead the preparedness sessions and give the girls a lesson on the history of the Red Cross. The girls also made cards for service members as part of the Holiday Mail for Heroes annual holiday campaign. The Girl Scouts also put together kits with food, toiletries, flashlights and other items for the YWCA.
