Red Cross and Red Paw Emergency Relief Celebrate Partnership

The first anniversary of the American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania (SEPA) partnership with the Red Paw Emergency Relief Team was July 25th, 2012. On Thursday, August 30, at 6 p.m. Red Cross SEPA will host a celebration of the past year’s success and the future of this ongoing relationship.

Red Cross SEPA and Red Paw Emergency Relief Team work together to ensure pets receive emergency care following a fire or disaster in their home. Red Paw provides 24/7 emergency transport, shelter and veterinary care for animals involved in residential fires and other disasters. Red Paw's main objective is to make sure ALL family members are cared for and reunited after a disaster. Red Paw works within a network of animal care related facilities, including veterinary care facilities, boarding facilities, kennels and training facilities, in conjunction with animal rescue groups and fosters in the Philadelphia and surrounding counties.

Red Cross volunteer (and Philadelphia firefighter) Jen Leary, saw a need to help animals affected by everyday disasters. In one year, Red Paw has responded to 125 disasters. It has helped more than 200 animals displaced by disasters, which has been instrumental in helping disaster victims as well. The clients helped by Red Paw recover best knowing that their pets are being taken care of. Red Paw feeds, houses, and provides medical care (including spaying/neutering if necessary) for potentially weeks, at no cost to their owners.
