Red Cross of Maine's Newest Pine Tree Chapter Board Members

MAINE - The American Red Cross of Maine, Pine Tree Chapter, is proud to announce the latest nominees to serve on its Board of Directors. Sister Mary Norberta, retired longtime CEO of St. Joseph Healthcare, Dr. Stephen Andrew, Clinical Supervisor of Manna Ministries of Bangor, Assistant Fire Chief Thomas Higgins, a 22-year veteran of the Bangor Fire Department and Christopher Hopkins, Headmaster of Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield are the latest additions to the Board.

Red Cross Pine Tree Chapter Executive Todd Nadeau states, “All four additions to our already talented board are seasoned and respected public figures in our community and each of them brings to the table a host of skills that will greatly enhance the mission of the American Red Cross.”

Sister Mary Norberta: Sister Norberta served as CEO at St. Joseph Healthcare for 29 years. She turned the small local hospital into the 8th largest healthcare facility in Maine. She has received several public service awards including Woman of the Year from the Maine Chapter of Business and Professional Women in 2009, as well as the Public Recognition award from the Bangor City Council in 2011. Sister Norberta has served on the Board of Directors for Catholic Charities of Maine, St. Michael’s Home and Maine Hospital Association and is on the Board of Trustees for St. Joseph Healthcare. Before her retirement in 2011, Sen. Susan Collins and Rep. Mike Michaud entered her achievements into the Congressional Record.

Dr. Stephen Andrew: Stephen is the Clinical Supervisor at Manna Ministries of Bangor and is owner of A-1 Storage in Hampden as well Yankee Consulting. Stephen is also the president of the Bangor Area Breakfast Rotary Club #7790 and was an active Disaster Mental Health and Client Casework volunteer during the Ice Storm of 1998, September 11th, and Hurricane Katrina. Stephen taught Human Growth and Development at Husson University and is currently a Crisis Response team member for Central Maine. Stephen’s recent involvement in the Chapter is to develop an engagement plan to help with volunteer retention.

Asst. Fire Chief Thomas Higgins: Thomas is a 22-year Bangor Fire Department veteran who is well-connected to not only Fire and EMS service agencies throughout Maine, but his peers nationwide. Thomas is the owner of Fieldstone Properties LLC and is President of Higgins Plumbing and Heating Inc. He is also responsible for securing 1.5 million dollars in grant money for the Bangor Fire Department.

Christopher Hopkins: Christopher has been the Headmaster of Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield since 2008. Christopher is a superb communicator, an academic leader. He is also an experienced educator and administrator who understands the developmental stages of childhood. Christopher has served as Dean of Students, Dean of the School and Faculty, and Interim Development Director at The Marvelwood School in Kent, Connecticut.

These four individuals have years of combined service and dedication to the state of Maine and will lend their talent and experience to the growing list of board members, volunteers, donors, and supporters committed to the American Red Cross.
