Home fires are the most common disaster to which the Red Cross responds.

The American Red Cross responded to three home fires over the course of 24 hours in Western Colorado today.

A Red Cross Disaster Action Team was dispatched to an apartment fire in Grand Junction that displaced the current occupants. Volunteers with the Western Colorado Chapter also responded to two additional fires early this morning: a single-family fire in Mack and a residential fire in Rifle that displaced the occupants of two households.

In situations such as these, the Red Cross typically provides for essential immediate needs such as housing for the night, food, blankets, comfort kits, clothing and help refilling medications destroyed by the fire.
