Red Cross to Recognize Volunteers, Partners at Annual Meeting

Volunteers are the heart of our organization and provide support to those affected by emergencies throughout the year.

American Red Cross Kansas Capital Area Chapter board of directors will meet on June 19, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at the Ramada Hotel & Convention Center for the chapter’s annual meeting and volunteer recognition event to celebrate volunteers and to thank its community supporters.

“This is the perfect time to highlight the hard work of Red Cross volunteers in our community,” said Jim Allan, Board Chair, Kansas Capital Area Chapter. “Volunteers are the heart of our organization and provide support to those affected by emergencies throughout the year.”

The Kansas Capital Area Chapter board will hold a brief annual meeting and recognize Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas for their commitment and partnership to the Red Cross. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas donated $25,000 as part of the new partnership, and provided a trained Disaster Response Team consisting of 30 volunteers who will respond to emergencies across the state.

Following the meeting, the annual volunteer recognition awards will be held. Volunteer awards will be presented in the following categories:

• Spirit of Natatlie Award

• Youth Spirit Award for Excellence in Leadership

• Leadership Award

• Corporate Sponsor Award

• Jan Ogan Distinguished Nurse Award

• John Marvin Boggs, Jr. Disaster Service Award

• Octavia Thatcher Volunteer of the Year Award

“Thanks to the support of our volunteers and partner organizations, Red Cross was able to help hundreds of people in north-east Kansas,” Allan said. “Their support ensures whenever there’s an emergency, Red Cross is there.”
