Response to Unconfirmed Tornado on Pine Ridge Reservation

Red Cross Encourages Families to Prepare For Severe Weather
Two homes were destroyed, four additional homes were damaged.

The Black Hills Area Chapter has assisted 21 individuals who were displaced by an unconfirmed tornado that passed through the Pine Ridge Reservation Friday evening. Two homes were destroyed, four additional homes were damaged. A power company representative stated that 70 power poles were brought down during the storm. Several homes are still without power.

The Red Cross responded Friday night by securing lodging for the impacted families who were unsheltered. Early this morning, a team from Rapid City travelled to Pine Ridge to meet personally with representatives from each family and to survey the damaged homes. In addition to providing lodging for 11 individuals, we are providing financial assistance for food, clothing and personal items for 21 individuals.
