Gail McGovern, American Red Cross President and CEO made her first formal visit to the Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter Tuesday, April 10, 2012. The day was spent honoring her achievements as CEO, as well as the accomplishments of the SEPA Chapter.
McGovern took a tour of the SEPA’s one of a kind Red Cross House, a temporary housing facility for survivors of disaster. Red Cross House is a full service disaster recovery center where all assistance is free of charge.
Temple Red Cross Club received the Community Partner award from McGovern during a luncheon with board members. Temple Red Cross Club members started as Red Cross interns leading high school programs, and have since formed their own club on a collegiate level. Club President Tessi Ruiz, Treasurer Denica Drummond and faculty advisor Dr. Nikki Franke accepted the award.
David Cohen, Vice President of the Comcast Corp., hosted a reception for McGovern, government and business leaders, Red Cross volunteers and select donors at the Comcast Center. Mayor Michael Nutter presented a special gift to McGovern for all the work the American Red Cross has done for his city. McGovern took the opportunity to share her vision and goals for the Red Cross, and to give thanks for the support from the city of Philadelphia and its leaders.
