The planets and calendar aligned to deliver both St. Paddy’s Day and the LA Marathon to the same Sunday, March 17. Both grueling physical events require the hydration of participants.
About 70 Red Cross youth volunteers and Americorps members joined in the effort, as the marathon took approximately 24,000 participants past the Red Cross Greater Los Angeles Chapter on Ohio Avenue, located at mile 20. Volunteers there distributed literally thousands of glasses of water to the energetic Sunday morning crowd and cheered the runners to the finish line in Santa Monica. Many runners honored both events by dressing in bright green.
This is the fourth year that Red Cross volunteers – dressed in bright red – have participated in the marathon which brings runners from as far away as Africa and as near as Santa Monica beach.
