Valentine’s Day Delivery of Thanks to Local Veterans

Pile of valentines for the military
We were happy to have the opportunity during National Salute to Veterans Week to go out and meet with our Veterans.

More than 300 thank you cards were distributed to Veterans this Valentine’s Day at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany. Red Cross volunteers Diane Bristol, George Walker, and Alan Hodges along with Services to Armed Forces Manager Dianna Rios delivered cards to honor Veterans during National Salute to Veterans Week (February 10-16).

“This was a very special Valentine’s Day for members of our Services to Armed Forces volunteer group. We were so happy to have the opportunity during National Salute to Veterans Week to go out and meet with our Veterans, shake their hands and thank them for their service,” said Rios.

In addition to the cards and well wishes that were delivered, valentines from the Tiny Tots Tea Room in Clifton Park were passed out. Cards were also sent out for delivery to Veterans at the Castle Point VA Medical Center in Dutchess County, NY.

“Not only were we able to meet with Veterans and their families in their hospital rooms, we shared many smiles with those in the lobby waiting for their appointments,” said Rios. “From asking us to sit with them, hold their hands or simply let them share their stories with us, we were able to express our gratitude for all these Veterans have done.”

The American Red Cross Northeastern New York Region collected the signed cards from the public for Veterans during Red Cross Advocacy Day in January at the New York State Capitol.
