Red Cross Brings Save-A-Life Saturday to Feather River Parkway
One in four people (27 percent) have found themselves in a situation where someone needed CPR.

YUBA CITY, Calif., Thursday, April 25, 2013 — On Saturday, April 27, the American Red Cross of Northeastern California will offer FREE Hands-Only CPR training sessions, AED demonstrations, and blood pressure checks at the grand opening of the Feather River Parkway in Yuba City as part of Save-a-Life Saturday.

Hands-Only CPR sessions will be held at the Parkway – East of Lamon Drive, South on Van Geldern Way, and East on Sumner Street – from 10:00am until 1:00pm. In addition to CPR training, volunteers will be on site sharing information about how to plan for disasters, including how to put together a disaster kit and how to make an emergency plan with your family. There will also be several activities for kids, including free face painting for those that visit the different education areas.

Save-A-Life Saturdays are free events organized by the American Red Cross throughout the year to provide valuable emergency information, resources, and lifesaving skills to members of the local community.

It is important for the public to be prepared for disasters that can happen at home, the office or at school. In fact, a Red Cross survey given in 2010 found that one in four people (27 percent) have found themselves in a situation where someone needed CPR. Hands-Only CPR is a potentially lifesaving technique involving no mouth-to-mouth contact. It is best used in emergencies where someone has seen another person suddenly collapse. The hands-only technique increases the likelihood of surviving cardiac emergencies that occur outside medical settings.

The Red Cross is able to provide this free event through the generous support of volunteers, donors, and organizations such as PG&E. For more information about Save-a-Life Saturday or to find out when full CPR and first aid classes are offered, visit www.redcross.org/nec.
