TORRINGTON, CONN., April 3, 2014 – The American Red Cross is responding to a major warehouse fire in Torrington on Taylor Street.

For several hours, Red Cross volunteers have been providing water, coffee and snacks to residents evacuated from or unable to access their homes due to the fire. The Red Cross established a canteen at the corner of East Albert and South Main Streets in Torrington. The Red Cross is also working with the City of Torrington to provide water, coffee and snacks to displaced residents at Trinity Episcopal Church on Prospect Street.

“We have volunteers here to support residents and are working to make sure we have enough staff to help if needed this evening,” said Natalie Dos Santos, American Red Cross senior emergency services director.

American Red Cross disaster assistance is free of charge, a gift made possible by generous donations and the work of volunteers.
