Red Cross Helping Seven People After Newport Fire

The Red Cross is helping with emergency housing, food and clothing needs.

NEWPORT, R.I., NOVEMBER 2, 2013 – The American Red Cross is helping seven people – six adults and one child – in six families after an overnight fire on Girard Avenue in Newport. The Red Cross is providing help with emergency housing, food and clothing needs. Red Cross volunteers Walter Wasowski and Charlie Fitzpatrick responded to assist the families.

The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving supplies and other items a family might not have been able to gather in the rush to escape the fire.

American Red Cross disaster assistance is free of charge, a gift made possible by generous donations and the work of volunteers.
