The Central Illinois Chapter of the American Red Cross is mobilizing teams of volunteers to help those affected by this afternoon’s tornadoes.

A Red Cross shelter is open at the Crossroads United Methodist Church, 1420 N. Main St., Washington. We are providing folks a play to stay, immediate needs like food and water, and mental health experts are available for those who need to talk about how they have been affected.

Those in areas affected by the severe weather can let family and friends know they are safe by visiting redcross.org. http://www.redcross.org/find-help/contact-family/register-safe-listing.

Financial donations are the best way to help those who have been affected. Call 1-800-RED CROSS or visit redcross.org to make a donation. Tell them you want your donation to go to the central Illinois tornado response.
