Boston student Red Cross Ready for college
I believe that these skills would not merely be useful for college, but for life in general.

Michelle Li is about to enter her freshman year at Harvard College, and she’s going into it with a special set of skills.

Li, a Roxbury native who attended Boston Latin School, is bringing with her to Cambridge years of Red Cross experience.

“My brother encouraged me to join the BLS Red Cross Club in seventh grade,” she said. “He shared his experience with volunteering at food pantries and blood drives, which sparked my interest.”

Li quickly joined her school’s Red Cross club, and helped orchestrate a benefit concert for Haiti, bake sales and other fundraisers to benefit Red Cross initiatives.

Public speaking, leadership and interpersonal communication are just a few of the skills she picked up along the way. Li’s school also held annual CPR classes lead taught by the Red Cross – experience she says she’s bring with her to school.

“I believe that these skills would not merely be useful for college, but for life in general,” Li said. “These are important skills to build upon, whether it’s for making connections or making even greater contributions in the future as leaders in the community.”
