IHL Film & Forum: Refuge - Caring for Survivors of Torture

Even in war there are limits.

How do survivors of torture overcome their scars, both visible and invisible? The documentary “Refuge: Caring for Survivors of Torture,” delves into this question through a series of poignant interviews with survivors and the caregivers who are helping them heal.

Says Achtenberg: “If you’re in or going into healthcare or human services profession, you will encounter torture survivors in your client population. How you deal with them can have an impact on their ability to thrive in

their new communities.”

The screening will be followed by a discussion led by Mr. Achtenberg and Lin Piwowarczyk, Co-Founder and Director of the Boston Center for Refugee Health and Human Rights.

This film is for anyone compelled by human stories and with a desire to make a positive impact. For more information or to reserve your seat, send an email to MAIntl@redcross.org.
