For the National Day of Service, the American Red Cross of Massachusetts and HOPE Worldwide partnered to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The two groups joined to deliver fire safety information door-to-door in neighborhoods with higher fire response rates, and to hand out fire extinguishers and smoke detectors to those who reported a need.
Neighborhoods targeted this year included Dorchester (Boston), Brockton, Framingham, Lawrence, and Lowell.
By the numbers:
- 656 volunteers participated
- 28,552 door hangers distributed with needed fire safety information
- 25,997 homes reached
- 1038 significant conversations conducted
