The American Red Cross is all about educating people on safety and preparedness, and in Massachusetts, that means starting early.

Red Cross volunteers made their way to the MassJam 2013 this past weekend, where 8,000 Scouts, Webelos and Venturers from all over the state camped out at the Barnstable Fairgrounds for three days of exhibits, activities, competitions and entertainment.

Disaster volunteers presented sheltering and disaster preparedness for the youngsters, and spoke to more than 1,000 scouts, their leaders and parents.

The event closed today, Columbus Day.
