Red Cross Volunteer Drivers Needed in Barry County

HASTINGS, Mich., October 11, 2013 – The American Red Cross in Barry County is in critical need of volunteer drivers for the Transportation Services Program. Volunteers are needed to drive clients to their medical and social services appointments and to help answer phones and schedule appointments at the downtown Hastings Office.

Barry County residents depend on this service to get to their lifesaving dialysis treatments and chemotherapy, as well as other doctor and social services appointments. The service provides rides to those who have no other means to get to their appointments. As with all Red Cross services to the community, the program relies on the generosity of volunteers and donors.

“The Red Cross Transportation Services Program saves lives every day,” said Mark Evans, Transportation Services Director for the Red Cross of West Michigan. “This is an excellent opportunity to help make a difference by volunteering in your community.”

To be a driver for the Red Cross, an individual must have a good driving record and enjoy working with people. Volunteer drivers use Red Cross vehicles, and should be available one morning or afternoon each week. Complete training is provided.
