(Corunna, MI) Thursday, April 3, 2014 - On Saturday, April 12, 2014, Shiawassee Firefighters from several Shiawassee County Fire Departments are joining together to support the HEROES Campaign for the Shiawassee Service Center of the American Red Cross. . Firefighters will be located at several major intersections throughout Shiawassee County as they conduct a “Boot Drive” to support local Red Cross services.

Shiawassee County Fire Chief, Dave Johnson and Corunna Caledonia Assistant Chief, Russ Wahl, announced that the hours of the “Boot Drive” will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. During these hours, fire personnel will be on hand at intersections sporting their boot to receive donations for the Red Cross. The Shiawassee County Fire Departments have been long time supporters of the Red Cross and will welcome and appreciate donations from passing motorists.

An excellent working relationship exists between the fire departments and the Red Cross as Red Cross disaster volunteers are often called to the scene by fire fighters when a home fire is occurring. Disaster volunteers support both the family and the fire fighters at the time of the emergency. Support continues after the fire for the family who has lost their home. Funds raised during the HEROES Campaign remain in Shiawassee County to support not only disaster services but also blood services, and health and safety training programs. On April 12th, give a supportive nod to our fire fighters for all they do and help fill their “boots” to support local Red Cross services.
