Red Cross receives special gift

Obviously, an adult wrote the note, but I thought it was really special that these two kids were given credit for sending a gift.

Normally, a $5 donation wouldn’t get much notice, but two $5 donations from kids who live in St. Robert, which is right next to flood-damaged Waynesville, caught the attention of the chapter staff.

“There was another $5 gift in the envelope, but when I read the note containing the bills I was really surprised to see the money came from a six-year-old and a three-year-old,” said Brittany Buehrlen, the chapter’s executive coordinator. “Obviously, an adult wrote the note, but I thought it was really special that these two kids were given credit for sending a gift.”

The chapter will send an acknowledgement letter to the kids, who appear to be related, at the address listed on the note.

“They gave us a gift and even though it’s only $5 we want to acknowledge them,” said Dave Griffith, the chapter's executive director. “I’m sure somebody will have to read it to them, but we want them to know we appreciate their gift and they should feel special for it.”
