The American Red Cross Greater St. Louis Region recognizes Dot Foods, the nation’s largest food redistributor, for its generous contribution of nearly $71,000 to support Red Cross disaster relief and response.

In the aftermath of the May tornadoes that devastated Moore, Oklahoma and the surrounding communities, Dot employees raised $35,472. The company matched the donation for a total contribution of $70,944. Dot Foods’ corporate sales offices are here in St. Louis.

“This generous gift from the employees and management of Dot Foods makes the work of the Red Cross possible,” said Cindy Erickson, CEO of the Greater St. Louis Region. “The Red Cross will continue to help families put their lives back together and assist them as they recover and prepare communities for future disasters.”

“This is a great tragedy that struck extremely close to a number of people,” said Dot Foods Chairman Pat Tracy. “With our nearby distribution center in Ardmore, Oklahoma, our employees felt the impact of this disaster very closely. We’re proud of all of the effort our employees in Ardmore have put forth to collect and transport goods, as well as the donations from our employees around the country.”

In the wake of a disaster, the Red Cross provides immediate, emergency support and supports longer-term recovery efforts of the affected families and communities. Funding from corporate partners such as Dot Foods ensures that the Red Cross will be able to provide immediate services like food, shelter and emotional support to disaster victims 24/7, 365 days a year.

The American Red Cross Greater St. Louis Region is a proud member agency of the United Way, which makes significant investments every year in Red Cross services.
