Red Cross to Hold Blood Drive in Ridgewood

FAIRFIELD, NJ, June 5, 2014 – During the “100 Days of Summer. 100 Days of Hope.” campaign the American Red Cross reminds blood donors that they can give hope to patients by rolling up a sleeve at blood drives this summer, including the blood drive on Monday, June 16, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the American Red Cross, 74 Godwin Avenue in Ridgewood.

“There are 100 days this summer to give the lifesaving gift of blood,” said Mathieu Nelessen, regional CEO, American Red Cross North Jersey Region. “By choosing a day to make a blood or platelet donation with the Red Cross, you help ensure lifesaving blood products are available for patients here in New Jersey and throughout the country.”

Vacations and summer activities often result in a decline in blood donations during the summer. In fact, during the months of June, July and August, about two fewer donors give blood at each Red Cross blood drive than what patients need.

Whole blood donations can also be made at the American Red Cross Blood Center Northern New Jersey, 209 Fairfield Road, Fairfield, NJ on Tuesdays between 12:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and on the first and third Saturday of each month between 7:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Eligible donors can schedule an appointment for this or additional area blood drives by calling (201) 652-3210 or by visiting Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins will be accommodated when possible.

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements. Individuals should bring their Red Cross blood donor card or other form of positive ID when coming to donate.
