New York Racing Association (NYRA) President Christopher Kay and Red Cross Executive Director Gary Ferris gathered at the Saratoga Race Track winner’s circle last Monday with NYRA employees who were burned out of their homes on Woodlawn Avenue in Saratoga Springs. The majority of the 39 people displaced by the fire were employed by NYRA or its affiliates for the seven-week track meet. At this ceremony NYRA President Kay presented each employee with monetary assistance to aid in their recoveries.
The Woodlawn Avenue fire in Saratoga Springs consumed 4 row houses and destroyed 16 dwellings last Sunday morning . The Red Cross responded and opened a shelter for several days in Saratoga to provide impacted residents with shelter. Red Cross also provided food and temporary housing, and was grateful to be a part of ceremony with NYRA that represented the next step in these workers getting back on track.
