Red Cross of Northeastern New York Welcomes Three New Board Members

Three community members join the American Red Cross Board of Directors.

ALBANY, N.Y. (October 23, 2013) The American Red Cross of Northeastern New York elected three new members to its Board of Directors on October 17th during its recent monthly meeting. David Ethier, Gary Holmes and Widjiono (Yono) Purnomo join a group of 21 Board members that provide support and guidance to the Chapter’s activities.

"I am thrilled to welcome Gary, David and Yono to the Board,” said Gary Striar, American Red Cross of Northeastern New York Regional CEO. "All three men bring a varied and diverse background to our Board and they will be a tremendous asset to the Red Cross."

David Ethier has spent the last 28 years of his career with National Grid, 19 of those in New England. Ethier currently serves as the Director of Eastern Division Overhead Lines Department, which consists of 306 represented workers and 24 Management employees.

“I truly believe in the mission of the Red Cross and what it means to the communities that are served by this Chapter,” said David Ethier. “I also believe that the proactive outreach to teach individuals, families and organizations the basic steps in preparing for emergencies is invaluable.”

Gary Holmes is a native to the Capital Region and is the News Director for YNN Albany/Hudson Valley and a senior editorial manager at Time Warner Cable’s 24-hour “production hub” in Albany. Launching in 2002, Holmes is a charter employee of TWC’s Albany news operation producing the station’s first hour of programming and launching YNN’s nightly political program, Capital Tonight, for a statewide audience.

“Having covered the Red Cross as a journalist and working for a company in Time Warner Cable that supports its cause, I have some familiarity with the operation,” said Gary Holmes. “The more I learn the more impressed I am with the spirit of volunteerism and selfless commitment. I’m honored to be affiliated with the organization.”

Esteemed Chef and Restaurateur Yono Purnomo has called Albany home since 1978. A Certified Executive Chef, Yono, his wife Donna and son Dominick own and operate “Yono’s Restaurant” and “dp An Brasserie” in downtown Albany.

Chef Purnomo strives to introduce his native culture and cuisine through cooking classes, demonstrations and lectures for schools, civic organizations, and charities, as well as for fellow chefs. He is affiliated with more than 75 charitable and community service organizations.

"I am honored to serve as a Red Cross board member,” said Yono Purnomo. “I so respect and admire the mission to help all people in need. From a house fire locally, to a devastating Tsunami continents away, the Red Cross is always among the first to respond."

Ethier, Holmes and Purnomo will all serve 3-year terms ending in 2016.
