American Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) volunteers Marilyn Vallejo, LCSW, and Michelle Kauffman, supported two events for US Air Force 106 Rescue Wing Aug. 3 in Westhampton, New York.

That morning, they gave an informational presentation about American Red Cross services to the Armed Forces to 11 family members and six service members who attended a Yellow Ribbon event, which provides support to service members and their families prior to a deployment activation.

Later that afternoon, a second event, US Air Force 106 Rescue Wing Family Day, was held in the same venue. Family Day activities included snacks and ice cream, tee shirt give-aways, games for children and information dissemination. Vallejo and Kauffman met one-on-one with some of the approximately 400 attendees on hand, including Air Force cadets, explaining how the Red Cross supports service members and their families before and during a tour of duty.

“Local events such as this Yellow Ribbon and Family Day are an opportunity for Greater New York Service to the Armed Forces volunteers to provide valuable information on Red Cross SAF services,” said Bridgette Ames, Regional Caseworker, Service Programs. “At the same time, they demonstrate our ongoing support to local military members and their families.”
