American Red Cross Assists 13 After Three Separate Fires

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (April 10, 2014) — Disaster Action Team volunteers from the American Red Cross of Central New York provided assistance Wednesday and Thursday to three families that  were displaced from their homes by fires in Martville (Cayuga County), Camillus and Syracuse.

A fire caused major damage Wednesday at a home on Fintches Corners Road in Martville. Red Cross volunteers provided food, clothing, children’s toys and personal hygiene items for a family with two adults and three children.

On Thursday, a fire on Huntington Way in Camillus caused severe damage to the home of two adults. Red Cross volunteers will provide temporary lodging, food and clothing to the couple. Both of the adults were hospitalized for precautionary measures and were expected to be released late Thursday or Friday.

Another fire occurred Thursday affecting a home on South Salina Street in Syracuse. One family with two adults and four children, including an infant, was displaced. Red Cross volunteers provided temporary lodging, food, clothing and baby supplies to the family.

Red Cross volunteers remain available to the families for support, counseling and referrals to local agencies that will provide long-term assistance during their recovery.
