Central New York Region Welcomes New COO Scott Aminov
The Red Cross allows me to use my background to truly help others.

The Central New York Region of the American Red Cross recently named Scott Aminov as Chief Operations Officer, Regional Chief Executive Officer Rosie Taravella announced today.

As Chief Operations Officer, Aminov (pronounced A-Mee-Noff) is responsible for the management of physical assets, such as buildings and vehicles, and financial assets, including the regional budget. He also oversees volunteer engagement and the region’s Service to the Armed Forces’ and International Services programs, and will supervise the planned consolidation of certain offices in the 16-county Central New York Region.

“I’m confident that the combination of my education and experience make me uniquely qualified for this position,” Scott said. “I realized that I wanted to do this type of work for the rest of my life, and the Red Cross allows me to use my background to truly help others.”

Born in Central Asia, Scott received his Masters of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He worked in Uzbekistan as Deputy Country Director for Samaritan’s Purse (an international Christian relief organization), and later worked in Indonesia as Country Director for Food for the Hungry.

Scott arrived in Indonesia in 2009 in the region that had been devastated by the 2004 Tsunami. His work focused on restoring the local economy and continuing the progress that had already been made to mitigate the financial and physical effects of a future disaster. Scott's initiatives included lessons in income-generating skills, distributing loans to local business owners, and developments in both the agricultural and educational sectors.

“Scott’s incredible experience and dedication with humanitarian efforts make him perfect for this position,” said Taravella. “We are excited to add Scott as a dynamic part of our Central New York team and look forward to a promising future with him on board.”

As Chief Operations Officer, Scott is leveraging the region’s new strategic plan to focus his efforts on three main initiatives: stewardship, excellence and relevance. The emphasis on stewardship, Scott said, will solidify the Red Cross’ reputation as a caregiver, ensuring that resources are properly allocated for the health and safety of residents in the Central New York Region communities.

The focus on excellence calls for continued improvement among all Red Cross workers, from staff members to volunteers. Both the internal operations and the external fieldwork of the Red Cross will be held to a higher standard, with the aim of promoting an environment of quality, Scott said.

The final area of importance for Scott is relevance – making the Red Cross a leader in innovation in the non-profit world. His goal is to develop new ideas and concepts and use advances in technology to help the Red Cross serve the community in ways it hasn’t before, from medical improvements to social media innovations, ensuring that the Red Cross remains a trustworthy steward of the donor dollar.

Now living in Syracuse, Scott fluently speaks Russian, Uzbek, and Tajik. He considers himself a “serial hobbyist” and enjoys such pursuits as aeromodelling, maintaining saltwater aquariums, and making homemade sausage.
