Red Cross Assists 12 After Three Central New York Fires

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Dec. 6, 2013) — Disaster Action Team volunteers from the American Red Cross of Central New York provided assistance Friday afternoon to five adults and seven children from three families who were displaced from their homes by fires in Syracuse, Hannibal and Eaton.

In Syracuse (Onondaga County), Red Cross volunteers provided food and lodging at an area hotel for three nights to a mother and her two children whose single-family home at 441 Gifford St. was destroyed by a fire that started at about 1 p.m. Friday.

In Hannibal (Oswego County), Red Cross volunteers provided food, clothing (including shoes and seasonal garments), infant supplies, and lodging at an area hotel for up to three nights to two adults and their three children who were displaced from their single-family home at 284 Durbin Road. That fire started at about 11 a.m. Friday.

And in Eaton (Madison County), Red Cross volunteers provided food, clothing (including seasonal garments), and lodging at an area hotel for up to three nights to two adults and their two children whose single-family home at 4108 Crow Hill Road was destroyed by a fire that started at about 1 p.m. Friday.

In addition to assisting the residents affected by Friday’s fires, the Red Cross on Friday also provided assistance to a family of five (four adults, one child) that was displaced Tuesday by a fire at its single-family home at 64 Country Lane, Fulton (Oswego County).

Red Cross volunteers remain available to provide the families with emotional support and counseling, and referrals to agencies that will help them with their long-term recovery.
