Buckeye blood donors could win big this fall

It’s so easy to roll up your sleeve to support the Buckeyes and to help patients in need.

The American Red Cross will give away a pair of tickets to each of the seven home football games during the 2013 Ohio State football season, and a grand prize pair of tickets to the Ohio State – Michigan rivalry game.

By coming to donate blood, Central Ohioans can show that they bleed scarlet and gray. Donors have the chance to help fellow Buckeyes in need through blood donation in addition to the chance to cheer on the buckeye football team from the ‘Shoe.

Those who come to give blood between August 1 and November 24 can enter to win one of seven separate drawings for home game tickets with a grand prize drawing for the Ohio State – Michigan game on Nov. 30.

“It’s so easy to roll up your sleeve to support the Buckeyes and to help patients in need,” said Rodney Wilson, communication manager for the American Red Cross Central Ohio Blood Services Region. “An hour of your time could make a big difference.”

The need for blood is constant and ongoing. Blood products are perishable and must be continuously replenished in order to serve patient needs. A single blood donation can help save up to three lives. It could be a child with cancer receiving blood transfusions during treatment or a victim of a motor vehicle accident—regardless, blood donations can help save lives.

This promotion is designed to help recruit blood donors in Central Ohio to support patients at 41 area hospitals during the highly anticipated football season. The Red Cross needs more than 800 donors each day in Central Ohio to support patients at these hospitals.

During the 2012 football season, eight lucky blood donors from around Central Ohio including Columbus, Chillicothe and Marysville enjoyed a pair of tickets to an OSU home football game including the OSU – Michigan game!
