Moore, Oklahoma Students Support Red Cross

Red Cross Central Oklahoma Students Donate
We have decided that the Red Cross would be an excellent organization to donate to and our kids are wearing red in honor of the Red Cross

A blanket of red greeted the American Red Cross and we wish to thank everyone of the 560 students at Sooner Elementary School in the Moore School District. As part of a district wide initiative, the school collected money for an organization it believed helped them in, as they call it, “their darkest time-May 20th, 2013”. “We have decided that the Red Cross would be an excellent organization to donate to and our kids are wearing red in honor of the Red Cross,” said Sooner Elementary Principal Kevin McElroy.

The school, situated on the eastern side of the county suffered no direct damage when the storms rolled through in 2013, but every one of the students and teachers has a story about how they felt and what they saw in the sky that day. In fact for some of these children, this marks their first year in a new school. Many attended the destroyed schools and were relocated throughout the district with many moving to Sooner Elementary.

The students decorated a paper box with a colored red cross and cut a hole on the top to pass around for donations. Students dropped in change wearing the biggest smiles. “We’re having a great day and we’re giving back,” Principal McElroy stated. “Students are donating any amount … and it’s just a way of saying thank you.”

The donations from Sooner Elementary will go to serve others in our communities struck by disasters. Again, we say thank you!
