Red Cross Opens Additional Shelters in Response to Winter Weather

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – As snow, sleet, and freezing rain has made its way across the state, the American Red Cross is working with county emergency offices in multiple counties and has opened shelters in Horry and Williamsburg Counties. The Red Cross is prepared to open additional shelters if requested.

The shelters currently open, as of 4 p.m. today, are:

• Beach Church, 4557 George Bishop Parkway, Myrtle Beach, S.C.

• Williamsburg Recreation Center, 2084 Thurgood Marshall Road, Kingstree, S.C

The Red Cross encourages anyone coming to a shelter to bring the following items for each member of their family: prescription and emergency medications, extra clothing, pillows, blankets, hygiene supplies, important documents and other comfort items. It's also important not to forget special items for children, such as diapers, formula and toys, and other items for family members who have unique needs.

To find a shelter near you download the free shelter app at www.redcross.org/mobileapps or on iTunes. The app is updated every 30 minutes when a shelter is open. People can also visit http://www.redcross.org/find-help/shelter
