  • Released message on winter weather preparedness tips to local and social media encouraging residents to take steps to prepare their families for the pending storm.

  • Support community members running shelters in Lead and Spearfish by phone
  • Identify and brief sheltering volunteers
  • Participate in Emergency Operation Centers (EOCs) by phone
  • Release updates on storm, travel restrictions and tips for sheltering in place
  • Assist family of 5 following collapsed roof in Sturgis
  • Assist family of 1 following collapsed roof in Sturgis

  • Travel to shelter locations in Rapid City and Lead on snowmobiles, track vehicles and Sheriff’s office, continue phone support of Lead shelter

  • Distributed 365 hot meals to shelter residents, first responders, EOC personnel and power repair crews

  • Coordinate with Salvation Army for joint feeding program

  • Assist family of 10 following home fire near Rapid City
  • Provide canteen services and hot meals for 70 firefighters
  • Provide mobile feeding with hot meals to impacted Pine Ridge communities
  • Support shelters in Lead with hot meals and staffing. Spearfish shelter closed
  • 10/10/13-Thursday:

  • Provide mobile feeding with hot meals to impacted Pine Ridge communities

  • 10/11/13-Friday:

  • Open an evacuation center in Hermosa following flash flooding in the areas of Keystone and Hayward near the Mt. Rushmore Memorial
  • Open second shelter in Rapid City due to additional power outages caused by the 70 mph winds and forecasted overnight temperatures below freezing
  • 10/12/13-Saturday:

  • Provide mobile and fixed canteen services out of 6 vehicles for residents clearing debris
  • Support 200 volunteers assisting in clean of for elderly/persons with disabilities
  • Close Lead and Rapid City shelters
  • 10/13/13-Sunday:

  • Provide mobile and fixed canteen services out of 3 vehicles for residents clearing debris in Sturgis and Rapid City
