Red Cross Welcomes New AmeriCorps Volunteer, Jaylynn Puskas

Your American Red Cross welcomes, Jaylynn Puskas, our new AmeriCorps volunteer. Jaylynn comes to us from Washington State with a drive to make her home town of Corpus Christi more disaster resilient. Education is also at the top of her list, as she finishes a music therapy degree, at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, she plans to incorporate her studies with a Business Non-Profit Management degree.

As an AmeriCorps volunteer, here role will encompass working alongside Red Cross Disaster & Emergency staff for 11 months to conduct new shelter facility surveys, disaster mitigation workshops, recruit and train new Red Cross volunteers and support community preparedness fairs.

With her heart wide open she stated “I really want to learn from my experience here to see how nonprofit organizations are managed but most of all I want to help increase volunteer support as a way to give back to my home town.” She added “By helping Red Cross develop their readiness system I feel like I am giving so much more to the people that will need it most during disasters.”

It’s evident, with Corpus Christi being her home town and her family here along her side it gives her comfort to know that she is helping the people she loves most.
