With the support of caring people like you, your Red Cross is making a difference every day throughout the state of Alaska. Here’s how we’re helping Alaskans prevent, prepare for and cope with emergencies (figures are for FY 2006-2007):

Disaster response

Red Cross disaster relief is meeting the immediate, disaster-caused needs that families have for emergency shelter, food, and health and mental health services. We also feed emergency workers, handle inquiries from concerned family members outside the disaster area and help those affected by disaster to access other available resources.

More than 1,050 disaster victims assisted.

Emergency communications services for military members and their families

Using the latest in technology, the Red Cross allows military members stationed all over the world to send messages to loved ones back home during an emergency or other important event. These communications are delivered around-the-clock, 365 days a year.

More than 4,500 Alaska military families assisted.

Lifesaving training

Red Cross first aid, CPR and AED programs give people the confidence to respond in an emergency with skills that can save a life. Red Cross is also a leader in lifeguard training and we help stop the spread of HIV/AIDS with prevention education. In addition, Red Cross teaches families and our community how to prepare for emergencies and disasters.

More than 32,000 Alaskans trained.

Community Services

Red Cross community programs are designed to improve the health, safety and well-being of our communities. Through our partnership with the Food Bank of Alaska in Fairbanks, 24,000 needy Alaskans were provided with food through our Emergency Food Program

More than 24,000 reached.

Youth and school programs

Red Cross youth courses are part of local school curriculums and are also offered in the community. Our disaster preparedness information teaches children how to prevent disasters from occurring, and how to be safe in the event of an emergency.

More than 4,000 children trained.

International services
As part of the world's largest humanitarian network, the Red Cross helps to alleviates the suffering of victims of war, disaster and other international crises, and works with other Red Cross and Red Crescent societies to improve chronic, life-threatening conditions in developing nations. We reconnect families separated by emergencies and educate the American public about international humanitarian law.
