Under the supervision of the Pasadena Fire Department, the American Red Cross provides all first aid services for the annual Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year's Day, as well as events preceding and following the parade, including Band Fest, Float Construction, Post Parade Float Viewing and the Rose Bowl game. The American Red Cross is now recruiting volunteers certified in CPR and First Aid to work at one of 13 first aid stations that will line the 2015 Tournament of Roses Parade route.
More than 150 Red Cross volunteers, including Emergency Responders, EMTs, paramedics, nurses and doctors, are needed each year to staff the parade and other events. First aid stations are designed to provide immediate, temporary care for injuries and sudden illnesses. Patients who need more advanced care are referred to Pasadena Fire Department paramedics for treatment and transport to area hospitals. Nearly one million people attend the parade each year. During the 2014 parade, more than 100 visitors and parade participants needed Red Cross assistance.
The Red Cross San Gabriel Pomona Valley Chapter coordinates all first aid stations and volunteer recruitment for the Los Angeles Region.
