The Red Cross Serving Greater Iowa has ten offices located within the three areas of Central Iowa, Greater Northwest Iowa, and Eastern Iowa and serves 80 counties in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. Through community partnerships, volunteers, and donors, the Red Cross is here to build community resilience and serve those in need after a disaster strikes or an emergency happens.

In the past year, the American Red Cross Serving Greater Iowa responded to 440 disaster incidents across 80 counties in Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota (422 of which were home fires), where 1,753 individuals were assisted by Red Cross volunteers. That’s over 4 people being helped every day!

Within the Iowa Region, the Greater Northwest Iowa Area office is located in Sioux City and serves the Brushy Creek Area Chapter, Iowa Great Lakes Chapter, and Siouxland Chapter.

  • The Brushy Creek Chapter office is located in Fort Dodge and serves Calhoun, Hamilton, Humboldt, Pocahontas and Webster counties.
  • The Iowa Great Lakes Chapter office is located in Spencer and serves Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Kossuth and Palo Alto counties.
  • The Siouxland Chapter office is located in Sioux City and serves Buena Vista, Cherokee, Ida, Lyon, Monona, O’Brien, Osceola, Plymouth, Sac, Sioux, Woodbury, Union, SD and Dakota, NE counties.
  • This year in the Greater Northwest Iowa Area, trained volunteers provided 306 individuals with food, shelter, clothing, medical necessities and emotional support after 81 incidents, including 77 home fires.

In order to provide these services, volunteers are trained and registered with the Red Cross for disaster assignments, responding primarily to local disasters within our communities such as home fires and floods. In addition, many of our disaster volunteers also traveled to other parts of the nation to help with large-scale disasters such as the tornado in Moore, Oklahoma and Hurricane Sandy.

We not only teach people of all ages how to prevent and prepare for natural and man-made disasters, such as fires, floods, tornadoes, heat waves and winter storms. We also provide CPR, First Aid, and AED training; swim, lifeguard, and babysitting classes; and Ready Rating training.
