The American Red Cross serves and supports members of the military, veterans and their families.

It supports military families with vital social services by providing emergency communications to keep families connected when they need it most.

About Service to the Armed Forces

The Red Cross assists in person wherever it is needed – alongside the troops throughout the world, on stateside military installations or in local communities far from a base. SAF at the Red Cross is a mixture of both tradition and innovation. We continually adapt our traditional services and create new programs to meet the needs for today’s military member, veteran and military families. Our work is important to the nation because it is important to our troops and their families.

Emergency Communication Services

When a parent adds a new member to the family or faces the loss of another, Red Cross emergency communications services keep military personnel in touch with their families following the death or serious illness of an immediate family member, the birth of a service member’s child or grandchild, or when a family faces other emergencies.

Call your local Red Cross if you have an emergency message for a military member and are:

  • family members of active duty service members who do not reside in the service member’s household
  • family members of Department of Defense Civilians assigned overseas
  • members of the National Guard and Reserves
  • recruiters, MEPS military personnel
  • veterans
  • civilians
For toll-free assistance 24 hours a day please call (316) 219-4070 or (877) 272-7337.
