Community Resiliency Programs

Building Stronger, Safer Communities
Locally and nationally, disasters are on the rise, and studies show that only 12 percent of adults are prepared for disasters. Our community resilience program identifies the preparedness needs of South Louisiana communities and works with partner organizations to ensure that residents have the information and tools they need to take action during a crisis.

Project Safe Escape
Smoke detectors save lives. The American Red Cross Acadiana Chapter offers free smoke detectors and other safety equipment to help reduce injury, death and property loss caused by fire. Project Safe Escape targets homeowners who cannot afford to purchase and/or install the alarms. Trained firefighting professionals will install the detectors, and Red Cross volunteers will assist residents in planning fire exit drills from the home.

For more information about Project Safe Escape, contact Joe Johnson at (337) 656-0837.

Emergency Preparedness Education
When we aren’t responding to disasters, we are helping people get ready for them. During disasters, vital resources will likely be unavailable, so preparing ahead of time allows you to minimize the effects of disasters and speed up the recovery process.

The Acadiana Area Chapter offers emergency preparedness education programs for people of all ages. Each year, tens of thousands of South Louisiana residents take part in these presentations at schools, businesses and community events.
