Operation Save-A-Life

The chapter created Operation Save-A-Life in 1992 when Cleveland was experiencing a rise in deaths due to home fires. The goal of the program is to reduce fire deaths in the Greater Cleveland area by installing smoke alarms and batteries to vulnerable populations in the area. The Red Cross seeks financial support to purchase the supplies, and firefighters from the participating cities perform the actual installation. In the 15 years of the program’s existence, the number of deaths caused by fire has decreased significantly.

We continue to work to extend the program into surrounding communities. Since 1992 we have assisted and installed more than 130,000 alarms. Operation Save-A-Life is available in Cleveland, Cleveland Heights, Euclid, and South Euclid.
