Help Promote and Support the Red Cross Mission

The American Red Cross Greater New York Region offers exceptional undergraduate and graduate students an engaging internship experience. Interns are matched with a specific department where they work on advancing critical projects.

The overall aim of the program is to attract a pool of diverse, skilled, enthusiastic young professionals and provide them with an opportunity to build a long-term, substantive relationship with the Red Cross.

Additionally, interns will:

  • Gain substantive professional experience as well as exposure to critical issues pertaining to the nonprofit sector;
  • Develop a comprehensive perspective on the Red Cross mission and service delivery at the local, national and international levels;
  • Enjoy networking, personal and professional development opportunities, including opportunities to meet with Red Cross senior leadership.

New York City Office:

Community Relations Intern

The Community Relations Intern will assist in outreach efforts for federal, state and local elected officials as well as activities that increase community awareness of the services and programs provided by the Greater New York Region which includes New York City, the Lower Hudson Valley, Long Island and Greenwich, CT. The internship involves directly assisting the Regional Senior Director, Community Relations and the Community Relations Manager

Community Education Outreach

Coordinator Working with the Community Outreach & Preparedness department to educate residents of New York City. With a focus on a particular borough or a population arranged with the department, the intern will coordinate and participate in off-site outreach events, including: emergency preparedness and safety presentations for adults and children, street fairs and health fairs at local organizations. The position will offer experience in public speaking, event planning, increased familiarity and comfort working with diverse populations and networking with other non-profit and government agencies.

Development Intern

We are seeking a fundraising/development intern for the American Red Cross. This internship will provide selected candidates with first hand fundraising experience working with the American Red Cross Greater New York Regional Development Team. Interns will gain insight in to the American Red Cross world of corporate, individual, foundation and special event fundraising all done with a focus on raising necessary funds to fulfill mission activities.

Editorial/Social Media Intern

The American Red Cross Greater New York Region responds to, on average, 5 to 7 disasters per day. The Editorial/Social Media Intern will serve an integral role in supporting the Communications Department in conveying the work of the Red Cross to the organization’s constituents—donors, volunteers, employees, the media and the general public.

Hurricane Sandy Long Term Recovery Program Intern

The Community Recovery intern will work alongside a team of 2 community recovery specialists to support the recovery of individuals and communities impacted by Sandy throughout the Greater NY region. The intern will help to gather, organize, and analyze incoming information gathered by the field specialists and support the presentation of this information to Long-Term Recovery management. The intern will also provide project management, information management, and administrative support to the team.

Service to Armed Forces/International Services Intern

The Service to the Armed Forces and International Services Team of the American Red Cross, Greater New York Region is seeking a motivated individual interested in assisting with the daily function of these two core mission programs. Selected candidates will directly serve local clients of the refugee/immigrant community and military and veterans populations. Additionally, the candidate will assist in ongoing volunteer management, community event planning, and outreach to local partners in support of the range of services provided by the programs.

Summer Programming Coordinator

Intern will coordinate summer programming for Greater New York Region. This will include a week long leadership development camp for Red Cross Clubs throughout Greater New York.

Additionally, intern will act as a general support for Youth Services Department and may be asked to assist with other summer programming as needed.

Volunteer Services Recruitment Internship

This internship will focus on the processes and best practices of recruiting and placing skilled, high performing individuals (volunteers & interns) in meaningful opportunities that support the mission of the American Red Cross.

This is a great opportunity to learn volunteer management and ideal for someone who is energetic, disciplined, highly detail-oriented and enjoys working with people, processes, metrics and data.

Long Island:

Development Intern

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated individual to work with the Long Island Development team to advance our fundraising capabilities. The intern will gain experience in a wide variety of non-profit and fundraising activities, such as working closely with the Development team to increase fundraising efforts within the chapter, database management, and donor research. This is an unpaid position.

Volunteer Resources Intern

The Volunteer Resources Intern will serve as an active member of the Volunteer Resources Department working directly with the Manager of Volunteer and Youth Services in support of Volunteer Recruitment, Intake and assessment on Long Island.

Metro New York North:

Office of the CEO Internship

Reporting to the CEO, the Administrative Coordinator will be responsible for the data entry of annual financial development plans into the Salesforce database and updating donor records with asks, activities and data; Keeping phone and email records for all staff, Board members and key volunteers up to date in CEO’s various address books; and ongoing administrative activities as assigned.

Volunteer Services Administrative Coordinator

The Administrative Coordinator intern will be responsible for entering new volunteers into the Volunteer Connection online database (if we receive paper applications), ensuring each new online applicant completes the application process, returning phone calls regarding volunteer application inquiries and making and mailing volunteer badges.
