Red Cross DAT volunteers are trained to respond to emergencies and disasters such as fires, floods, ice-storms, etc. They administer to the needs of survivors of disasters. Red Cross assistance typically may include temporary emergency shelter, and financial assistance for food and replacement clothing and replacement medication and emotional support. Volunteers are always needed and those interested should contact the Director of Volunteers at (315) 234-2217 at the American Red Cross of Central New York Chapter.

Red Cross Assists 13 After Baldwinsville Fire

A Disaster Action Team of the American Red Cross Central New York Chapter provided assistance to the immediate needs of 13 people who were displaced from their homes by a fire early Thursday morning at Conifer Village Apartments in Baldwinsville.

The Red Cross provided lodging at area hotels for four nights for six of the 13 people and three of their pets (one dog, one cat and one bird). The 10 Red Cross volunteers who responded to the fire also provided food and other necessities for the 13 people.

One tenant died after being transported to an area hospital. His dog was taken to the Beaver Lake Animal Hospital in Baldwinsville.

The Red Cross worked closely with the Baldwinsville Fire Department, the Conifer Village Apartments Homeowners Association, and Baldwinsville Mayor Joseph Saraceni to provide assistance for the tenants. Homeowners Association members made breakfast for the displaced tenants Thursday morning at the complex’s community center.

Red Cross CNY Chapter Disaster Action Team responds to apartment fire

A Disaster Action Team of the American Red Cross of Central New York Chapter responded to a fire on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at The Ballantyne Road Apartments, Building 159 in Syracuse, NY. Although the fire was contained to one unit, and other tenants were allowed to return to their apartment, one tenant was sent to the hospital for medical evaluation.

Red Cross CNY Chapter Disaster Action Team assists at Nedrow fire

A Disaster Action Team of the American Red Cross Central New York Chapter provided assistance Sunday morning to the immediate needs of 2 people who were displaced by a fire at their home, located at 206 Ruhamah Ave., Nedrow, NY. The family and their pet dog all escaped unharmed.

Fire Sends Mother and Infant to Hospital; CNY Disaster Team provides assistance

A Disaster Action Team of the American Red Cross Central New York Chapter provided assistance Friday morning to the immediate needs of 3 people and an infant who were displaced by a fire at The Crosby Hill Mobile Home Park located at 2657 State Route 3, Fulton, New York.

The fire forced two of the residents, the mother and her two and a half year old baby, to the Oswego County Hospital to be checked for possible smoke inhalation. The other two residents were not allowed to return to the home due ot extensive damage.

The Red Cross arranged hotel lodging for the residents and provided assistance for food, clothing, infant formula and other necessities and made referrals to local agencies to assist the family during their recovery.

CNY Disaster Action Team assists families displaced by Syracuse fire

A Disaster Action Team of the American Red Cross of Central New York Chapter provided assistance early Sunday morning to two famlies consisting of five individuals who were displaced by a fire at 119 John Street, Syracuse, NY 13208. One family, not home at the time of the fire, lost their precious pets, a dog and a cat overcome by smoke.

Red Cross volunteers were able to provide lodging at a local hotel and assisted the families with funds for food, clothing and other necessities. The two families consisted of five adults. They were not allowed to return to their home due to fire and heavy water and smoke damage. National Grid Co. shut down power to the structure for safety measures.

Red Cross volunteers will be available this week to provide any additional or follow up services as needed.

Red Cross Provides Shelter for Family of Five Left Homeless After Fulton Fire

A Disaster Action Team of the American Red Cross Central New York Chapter provided assistance to the immediate needs of eight people from two families who were left homeless Friday night after a fire destroyed their apartment house at 115 North Sixth St., Fulton.

One of the families included two adults and three children ages 1, 3 and 4. The Red Cross will provide shelter for that family at an area hotel for three nights. The second family included three adults who did not require shelter from the Red Cross.

The Red Cross supplied both families with food, clothing, blankets and other necessities. The Red Cross also provided a crib, diapers and other infant supplies for the family with children. A Disaster Action Team of the American Red Cross of Central New York Chapter provided assistance early Friday morning to three famlies consisting of 13 people who were displaced by a fire at 5459 Bennett Street, Brewerton, NY 13029

Red Cross volunteers were able to provide lodging at a local hotel and assisted the families with funds for food, clothing and other necessities. The three families consisted of five adults and eight children. They were not allowed to return to their home due to heavy water and smoke damage. One young man was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Red Cross Assists Tenants after Kirkpatrick Street Fire

A Disaster Action Team of the American Red Cross Central New York Chapter provided assistance Thursday night to the immediate needs of 12 people who were displaced by a fire at an apartment house at 808 Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse.

The tenants were not allowed to return to the house Thursday night, and the Red Cross arranged for them to stay at area hotels until they can return to the house or find other places to stay.

Three families, each with four people, reside in the house (one unit is vacant). No one was injured in Thursday’s fire.

Red Cross Finds Shelter for Residents Displaced by Apartment Fire in Brewerton

A Disaster Action Team of the American Red Cross Central New York Chapter provided assistance Sunday to the immediate needs of nine families who were displaced from their homes after a fire at an apartment building at 9462 Chalkstone Course, Bayshore Apartments, Brewerton.

Red Cross volunteers provided food, clothing, prescription medications and other necessities to 20 people (10 adults, 10 children) from nine families who live in the 12-unit apartment building.

The Red Cross arranged for four of the families (a total of five adults and six children) to stay at area hotels Sunday night. The other families had places to stay. Red Cross assists 2 Oswego County families after fires

A Fulton family of six is being helped after a furnace fire in their mobile home earlier today. The family, living at 24 Rathburn Road, Fulton, is unable to stay in their home because power was shut off due to the fire.

Red Cross volunteers also assisted a Central Square family of three, who lost all of their belongings in an apartment fire last night. The apartment was located at 183 US Route 11A in Central Square. Disaster Action Team from the CNY Red Cross Chapter provide assistance at 3 fires

A Disaster Action Team from the American Red Cross Central New York Chapter provided immediate assistance Sunday to 19 people who were displaced from their homes by three fires within a 12-hour period in Syracuse.

The fires occurred at 204 W. Colvin St. (about 1 a.m. Sunday), 804 Spring St. (about 3:30 a.m.) and 112 Manilla St. (about 1 p.m.). Red Cross volunteers provided food, clothing and other necessities to the 19 people and also arranged for hotel rooms for three of the five families that were unable to stay with other family members.

At 804 Spring St., two children and one adult required medical care at Upstate University Hospital. One other adult also lived in the single-family home. One family with eight people (four adults and four children under 18) was displaced from its home at 112 Manilla St. Three families with a combined seven people (five adults and two children) were displaced from their homes at 204 W. Colvin St.

American Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteers responded to assist several families this morning after a fire at 221 Davis St. in the Syracuse.
