Summer Learn to Swim Program

Over 600 area children learned to swim this past summer through a collaborative effort between Firelands Chapter and four area pools. Participating in the program were the Sandusky YMCA, the Ernsthausen Aquatic Center of Norwalk, Bellevue Mil ’Lympic Pool and Willard City Pool. 378 of these children received scholarships covering most of the cost of their lessons due to the generosity of the following foundations: Sandusky/Erie County Community Foundation, The Fund for Huron County, Grace Episcopal Church, Zion Lutheran Church Foundation, Murray & Murray Foundation, Newcomers & Friends, Wightman/Wieber Foundation as well as other local foundations.

Scholarships supported lessons will continue throughout the winter at the Sandusky YMCA and Ernsthausen Aquatic Center. Scholarships are also available for lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors who will be working with the program. For more information about the scheduled sessions and how to apply please contact: Sandusky YMCA – 419-621-9622 or Ernsthausen Aquatic Center – 419-663-6775.
