Community Disaster Education

A major component of the American Red Cross mission is to help people prepare for emergencies through community disaster education. The American Red Cross of Central and Western Oklahoma offers engaging Community Disaster Education courses that are FREE and can be presented at your location.

Adult Presentations

Free adult preparedness presentations can be conducted at a location and time that is convenient for you and your group.

Preparing for the Unexpected
This presentation will help you be prepared for any type of disaster. You will learn the importance of creating a family disaster plan, having an emergency supply kit and knowing how to seek shelter. Specific hazards covered may include fires, floods, heat waves, thunderstorms, tornadoes and winter storms.

Seniors by Seniors
This presentation is designed specifically to help seniors, regardless of their physical limitations. Participants learn to create family disaster plans, build emergency supply kits, and shelter in place.

Pandemic Flu Preparedness
This presentation teaches the signs and symptoms of pandemic flu, the differences between seasonal and pandemic flu, and the steps you can take to protect your family while preventing the spread of pandemic flu to others.

Youth Presentations

Free presentations for schools, before and after school programs, daycare centers and scout troops. These programs can be tailored to: Lower Elementary (Grades K-2), Upper Elementary (Grades 3-5), Middle School (Grades 6-8) and High School (Grades 9-12).

Masters of Disaster
Ready-to-go lesson plans for integrating disaster preparedness and safety instructions into standard academic classes. Topics include general preparedness, hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, lightning and earthquakes, as well as helping young people deal with terrorism and other tragic events.

Disaster Boot Camp
Hands-on training that teaches youth to prepare for disasters including making a plan, building a kit and getting informed. Participants will be equipped to educate their peers on disaster preparedness.

Be Red Cross Ready

Business Preparedness
We offer a guide to business continuity planning designed to assist businesses in planning for disasters, including how to operate during disasters and how to recover after them.

Publications
We offer a variety of materials with information on how to stay safe and prevent or reduce the effects of disasters and emergencies. Contact the American Red Cross to place an order.
