Disaster Volunteers are the heart of American Red Cross disaster relief efforts. Our members respond immediately to a disaster when called by emergency dispatch 24 hours a day, 7 days down the street and across the country. Arriving on the scene of a disaster, whether it be a home fire, a flood, an earthquake or an accident, Red Cross Disaster Volunteers assess the scope of the damage and meet one-on-one with the affected family or families to determine their immediate disaster-related needs and work hard to ensure that those needs are met. Depending upon their individual needs, the Red Cross can provide assistance to disaster victims for shelter, food, clothing, medical needs and mental health counseling.
