Personal Support Network

Having a personal support network in place is very important. This network, made up of several individuals including family members, friends, neighbors and others, is key to the well-being of seniors during an emergency situation. Seniors will learn several important factors to discuss and implement with a personal support network.

This free workshop is approximately 45 minutes and participants learn about preparedness in a fun and engaging manner. Each participant takes home preparedness information and several items to help them put together their disaster plan and emergency kit.

A Word of Thanks to Our Workshop Funders

united way monroe county

In August 2012, the United Way of Monroe County presented an $8,000 check for emergency preparedness and education to the American Red Cross of the Poconos.

The grant was part of a $200,000 statewide donation and joint initiative between Shell Oil Company and United Way of Pennsylvania to address long-term and unmet recovery needs as a result of Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. Funds from this grant will be used to present the Emergency Preparedness Workshop for Seniors.

“We are very grateful to Shell Oil Company, the United Way of Pennsylvania and our local United Way for this assistance to our disaster services program. The American Red Cross is proud to be able to present our Emergency Preparedness Workshops, so that senior citizens will be able to be better prepared to cope with future natural and human-caused disasters,” said Jim Rienhardt, executive director of the Poconos and Wayne Pike Chapters.
