The San Antonio Area Chapter was founded in 1916 to provide support and assistance to the military stationed in and around San Antonio.
Ninety six years later, our Chapter serves 2.4 million people in 22 counties across South Central Texas from our offices in San Antonio, New Braunfels, Del Rio and Laredo.
We respond to an average of 10 emergencies each week, offering free assistance to the victims of single family and multi-family fires, extreme weather conditions, and natural disasters.
In the past year, we taught over 22,000 people in our service area how to save lives with first aid and CPR courses.
Nearly 4,000 people enrolled in Red Cross safety courses to learn how to swim, become a lifeguard, and receive babysitter training.
The San Antonio Area Chapter is committed to perpetuating Clara Barton’s original vision for the American Red Cross: a humanitarian organization led by volunteers to assist people when they need help the most.
2010San Antonio became the hub for the 44-county Southwest Texas Region, encompassing Branch and Chapter offices including El Paso, Midland, Del Rio, Laredo and New Braunfels.
2004Mike Bennett assumed leadership of the San Antonio Area Chapter as its Chief Executive Officer.
1998A massive flood in San Antonio overtook our Chapter headquarters, prompting a relocation to Fort Sam Houston until renovations could be completed.
1987San Antonio Area Chapter purchased and moved into its current location, the former headquarters of Diamond Shamrock
