Holiday Mail for Heroes

Supporting Our Military by Giving Something that Means Something

Each year the American Red Cross provides assistance to more than 2 million service members and many of our nation’s 24 million veterans. We support military families, military and veterans hospitals and provide emergency communications across the globe. And once a year, we get the joy of delivering holiday greetings to veterans, military families and active duty service members at hospitals and installations around the world.

As the Eastern Virginia Region has one of the largest military communities in the nation, when the holiday season approaches, we are very enthusiastic in staging card signing events and partnering with schools, businesses, and other organizations who invite the community to inscribe cards of thanks, encouragement, and holiday cheer to members of our U.S. Armed Forces, veterans, and their military families - many of whom will be far from home and serving in harm’s way this holiday season.

For the 2013 Holidays the Eastern Virginia Region collected over 31,000 holiday cards with personal messages for our military serving in the U.S. and overseas. That is an increase of over 30% over the number of cards sent in 2012!

We want to especially thank WTKR NewsChannel3 our media sponsor for their great job in promoting Holiday Mail for Heroes throughout our region.
