Winnie Romeril—a Red Cross disaster specialist deployed to the Philippines in February—leaves the village of Balud for the third and final time. Sent by the American Red Cross to help people recover from Typhoon Haiyan, Winnie and her team helped the community fix its bridge, which was essential in delivering relief supplies to the families who live there.
More than 100 families in Balud wore red in a "tribute to the Red Cross" the day Winnie recorded this video. In the morning, the Red Cross distributed emergency cash grants to the families. In the afternoon, everyone joined forces to haul much-needed relief goods over the bridge.
Since Typhoon Haiyan made landfall, the American Red Cross has deployed 43 disaster specialists to the Philippines, purchased and distributed relief items—such as food, blankets, hygiene kits, mosquito nets, and shelter materials—and has helped the global Red Cross network to give cash grants to more than 41,000 families affected by the storm.
