American Red Cross RSS
What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is an XML format designed for sharing web content. An RSS service (also known as an RSS channel or feed) consists of a list of items, each of which contains a headline, description, and a link to a Web page. The Redcross.org RSS service makes the full content, such as a full-text article available on www.redcross.org. This content can also be accessed by the link in the RSS service.
By itself, an RSS feed is nothing more than text surrounded by computer code. But when combined with an RSS news reader or similar software, RSS becomes a powerful tool which allows readers to keep up to date on breaking news and information from a Web site. RSS software regularly pulls headlines from news sites and presents them within e-mail software, Web browsers or standalone programs known as readers.
Redcross.org is offering access to its news articles in RSS form for Web sites and stand alone readers. This format allows for publishing of the most recent news articles on an affiliate Web site in real time and allows the affiliate a hands-off method of displaying National Headquarters news articles.
How do I use the Redcross.org RSS?
You can use an RSS news reader or aggregator that will allow you to display RSS feeds. News readers allow you to view the RSS service and keep on top of new content appearing soon after it is published.
There are many different news readers available, many for free. Most news readers are applications that you download and install. Others are a service you sign-up for to display headlines inside your Web browser.
