It’s been more than a month since the deadly Hurricane Ida devastated communities from Louisiana to the Northeast and people are still out of their homes, dealing with temporary living quarters and losing everything they had.
The American Red Cross and our partners are still there, continuing to work around the clock to provide recovery help after the storm changed lives forever. Follow our work here.
Hundreds of people impacted by Ida are still depending on the Red Cross and partners for safe shelter in Louisiana and New Jersey. Since Ida first threatened the U.S., we’ve provided more than 40,000 total overnight stays.
As many as 330 trained Red Cross workers are supporting the relief efforts, either on the ground or virtually. In total, some 3,000 disaster workers from all over the country have helped on the Red Cross Ida relief effort.
With the help of partners, the Red Cross has provided 763,000 meals and snacks, and distributed 296,000 relief items to people in need. Trained Red Cross volunteers have made 23,700 contacts providing emotional support, health services and spiritual care for people who’ve been evacuated.
The Red Cross has also provided financial assistance to 3,900 households or 10,900 people who experienced loss due to the storm. This financial assistance will allow people to make their own decisions and prioritize what their family needs most to start recovering. Funds can help families replace clothes or food, offset transportation costs, or support any other immediate need.
